Lesson 5: Building the WebCD Viewer Image

This lesson shows you how to create the WebCD Viewer image that will eventually be written to CD-ROM for replication and distribution.

If you . . . To do this lesson . . .
did Lessons 1-4 and have not closed the WebCDTutorial project go directly to number one (1) below.
did Lessons 1-4, but have closed the WebCDTutorial project open the WebCDTutorial.wcd project.
did not sequentially do Lessons 1-4 open the Lesson5.wcd project.

To open a project that is not listed on the Startup dialog, double-click More Files. Then open the appropriate directory and double-click the .wcd file to open the project. If you are already in the WebCD Packager application, select Open Project from the File menu. Note: The tutorial lessons projects are not available with demo versions of the WebCD Packager.

1 Build your WebCD to hard disk. From the Build menu choose Build Wizard or click the Build Wizard button.

2 Choose the destination for the WebCD Viewer image. Hard disk should be selected by default with the default location of install-path\Projects\WebCDTutorial\Image\ where install-path is the path where you installed the WebCD Packager software.
Click Next to accept these settings and continue with the Build Wizard.
3 Accept the default of "No" to retrieve before building. Click Next to continue. Note: The retrieve before building option is useful if you have not completely retrieved, if you have added URLs since your last retrieval, or if some pages have changed since the last retrieval. It allows you to retrieve and build in one convenient "batch" operation.
4 Select Yes to include text searching features with the build. Click the Options button.
5 The Search Options allow you to make decisions about what will be indexed. Click the Help button or press F1 for details on filling in the Search Options. Click OK to save your settings and return to the Build Wizard.
6 Click Next to continue. Verify that WebCDTutorial is the default title and Program Group name. Enter Version One as the WebCD version. The title and version will appear in the title bar of the Bookmarks Window when the user runs WebCD Viewer. Click Next to continue.

7 On the Include helper applications on the WebCD dialog, place a check next to Adobe Acrobat Reader to include this application in the WebCD image you build. This means the Adobe Acrobat Reader will be installed when the user runs the WebCD Viewer, ensuring that the user can view the PDF file we included. Helper applications ensure all the content on the WebCD is viewable. Click Next to continue.
8 Select one of your distribution licenses, (It can be re-used later since the WebCDTutorial project will not be distributed.) or select the Create WebCD for testing and demonstration purposes option. Click Next to continue.
Note: When you create a WebCD for testing and demonstration purposes, each time the WebCD is run, it will display a message indicating that it is for testing and demonstration purposes only.
9 Review the Build Summary. Click Back to return to previous screens if necessary. Click Build to start the build.
10 If creating a demo WebCD (see step 8 above), click Continue to bypass the Temporary Distribution License dialog.
11 When the build is finished, the last line of the Build Results window indicates completion and displays the build completion date and time.
